So it’s June already! Solstice month. The days elongate, the rain (still!) pours on warmer soil, and we all relish in the chance to wear shorts and only one jumper.
Over at 99p Films, we’ve been busy delivering the No Trees No Seas events.
Falmouth was an absolute hit. We got the Princess Pavilion packed out and settled in for a night of remembering. Remembering our ancient landscapes, remembering our duty of care over them, remembering that actually, hey, seaweed is kinda delicious!
Our next events are selling fast. Don’t miss out!
Scroll on to see what’s coming up this month.
FIRST THINGS FIRST… a new one-off screening of…

JO IN THE WATER
ONE WOMANS FIGHT AGAINST THE POLLUTING WATER COMPANIES THAT SPILL SEWAGE INTO OUR OCEANS.
In the wake of Channel 4’s recent hard-hitting docu-drama (Dirty Business) which has left many both angry and frustrated, Jo’s courage helps ignite a growing movement.
Jo in the Water exposes the dire state of our water system and asks: who will stand up for our right to swim in clean natural waters, for the species and communities that rely upon them?
Made by award-winning film-makers, this one is not just about water pollution; it is about connection—to nature, to our own sense of place, and to our responsibility for the world around us.
99p FILMS x SPLANNA!
We’re collaborating with Splanna for this event.
Splanna are a collaborative youth project exploring themes of climate, art and activism with young people aged 11-14.
As part of the evening we will be holding a raffle where art made by Splanna for their new folklore book (see below) will be available to buy!
All proceeds go towards an amazing local foundation called Voices of Water, who are fighting for river rights in Cornwall.
By the way, its in Falmouth Library! So there’s space for all.
Bring your kids, bring your friends, bring your coins.
Hope to see you there 🙂

IF YOU MISSED US IN FALMOUTH…

The seaweed, spinach and kale wilted greens alongside our stew was such a hit that we’re planning to cook it at every event. It was a real treat to see Princess Pavillion packed out, and testament to the quality of the film!

We hope you can make it to one of our other screenings.
Cabilla: Sold out! Thanks so much for all the support guys. If you managed to get a ticket- we’ll see you there!
EcoPark: Still a few tickets left for this one! We’re looking forward to seeing you all in this beautiful space looking down over north coast oceans.
Truro: Set in the Truro museum who are currently showcasing Cornish Myths and Legends, you might want to come to this screening to feel closer to the story-telling and folklore aspect of the film.
Helston: For those of you on the Lizard and closer to the southern edges of Kernow, we’re coming to Helston, in collaboration with the Helston Climate Action Group, South Kerrier Alliance, Women’s Institute and Helston Town Council.
TAKING TREVONE TO THE SHEFFIELD DOC FESTIVAL

Illustration of the Trevone workshop by our creative director, Jack Cowley. Check out his incredible artwork here: https://www.jackcowley.co.uk/
If you’ve been with us for a while, you might remember that our founder, Alex, is in the process of making a documentary on a local quarry, turned artist space & rewilding site.
Trevone follows a group of artists who transformed an abandoned Cornish quarry into a flourishing eco-haven, only to face eviction despite owning the land. United, they fight to save their home and the nature they’ve worked so hard to restore.
As part of the Filmmaker Challenge set by the Sheffield Doc Fest, Alex has produced a 3-minute teaser of the film which is premiering this weekend!
The film showcases the land, it’s inhabitants, and their mission to restore the abandoned quarry to a fully functioning ecosystem and nature reserve amidst absurd eviction notices from the Council.
With otters, elephant hawk-moths, tawny and barn owls and dams in the river ready to receive beavers… Trevone is becoming a sanctuary amongst the monoculture agricultural land that surrounds it.
Watch this space as we release the official Teaser after it’s premier at Sheffield Doc Fest!

Other events in our community:

Even though we send you this newsletter to inform you of our own upcoming events, at 99p Films we believe strongly that an interconnected community creates a strong community, just like those interwoven mycellium networks that pioneer through the forest soils.
Apologies that most of these are in the Falmouth and surrounding areas… that is our local community, so that is what we can share. We hope if you are outside of this community that you attend your own events and one day we get to overlap!
